Karim Siam said the Custodian of Absentee Property requested his mother to pay 40 thousand NIS (the amount she owes for renting her house in Sheikh Jarrah and lawyer’s fees).
The lawyer explained to his client Siam that the person responsible for the Custodian of Absentee Property refused to freeze the decision to evacuate his mother from her house in case the above mentioned amount of money is not paid.
Siam’s family appealed to the officials legal and human rights institutions to help them pay the amount of money to avoid the evacuation.
Siam pointed out that the Israeli Magistrate court lately issued an evacuation decision considering his mother an unprotected tenant, in addition to imposing fines on the family (rent and court’s fees), knowing that she has been living in the house since 1968.
Karim Siam explained that the Custodian of Absentee Property gave the lawyer 45 days from the 1st of August to submit an appeal and said: “the lawyer informed me that in case we fail to pay the amount due, the matter will be transferred to the “Debt Collection Agency” which will seize the house’s furniture.
