Residents of the Baten el-Hawa neighborhood of Silwan have expressed renewed fears that settlers will try – for the second time – to take over a house belonging to Abdullah Abu Nab. After noting that furniture has been moved into the settlers’ building, named “Beit Yonatan”, in Baten el-Hawa, a number of residents expressed the concern that the settlers plan to use this to furnish the house of Abu Nab, or else are preparing for the arrival of new settlers so-called “Beit Yonatan”.
The region has witnessed, in late June of this year, very violent clashes following attempts by settlers to seize the house of Abu Nab by force. Dozens of people were injured by the use of tear gas and live and rubber bullets. As a result, Israeli authorities have sent troops from the Israeli army to stay in Baten el-Hawa. These soldiers monitor the situation in the neighborhood from positions they have taken up on the roofs of Palestinian houses.
